SCOUT & CATALOGUE / ISS:74:02.10

Before Tamar left she gave me a quick tutorial on silkscreening with vinyl. For a long time I've wanted to make some items with my 'our love triangle' graphic but have been continously sidetracked with tie-dying. It turns out that silkscreening with vinyl is simple and fun - something I will for sure continue to do for Scout & Catalogue. Lesson #1 - when silkscreening words make sure to create your vinyl stencil BACKWARDS so that it prints correctly. Whoops.

We have a whole fleet of house guests arriving next week for most of the month of March and I've been using this week to restock the Scout & Catalogue Etsy store in preparation. Today will be a day of Sierra Duffel bags and tomorrow Driftwood totes. More new scarves to come too...

Inspired by the papermache masks we saw in San Sebastian Tamar and I decided to have a mask craft day ourselves. We quickly discovered that mask making has its challenges - whole wheat flour clumps, popping balloons and significant warping. Never-the-less Tamar managed to bring at least one mask through to completion and gifted us with this delightful Mexican owl before she left for Canada.

I've been getting a lot of great response with the Sierra Duffel and decided to branch out of my usual grey and bleach black colourways and develop a rose version. Available in the Scout & Catalogue Etsy store.

ROAD TRIP / ISS:25:02.10

In Mexican cities the church is always situated in the center of the action - usually just to the side of the main square - where they are able to accommodate many daily services and leave their doors open to those in need of a quiet refuge. It is rare to find a church empty, but that was exactly the case when we were wandering around San Sebastian few weeks ago. While I sat and soaked in the peace, Tamar wandered around snapping photos of the beautiful space. I love how graphic, and almost garish, the decor is - exhibiting 3-D scenes of torture and piousness set in and opulent and ornate backdrop.

Hands down the most beautiful place for dinner (or to stay the night) in PV is Hacienda San Angel. Tamar treated us to dinner in this beautiful boutique hotel for my birthday and we spent a solid 4 hours murmuring about how beautiful everything was. We ate under the stars on the open restaurant patio with a view of the mountains, listened to the live music and ate delicious food until our bellies couldn't hold anymore. It was delightful.

ROAD TRIP / ISS:24:02.10

After one false start we finally made it to Yelapa! My birthday was one of the few sunny days we've had around here in the last 3 weeks and so we jumped in a boat and spent the day playing scrabble on the beach. We spent the last hour wandering around the town - taking pictures, walking to the local waterfall and getting really really lost...
