OAXACA

We spent some time just wandering the streets of Oaxaca and it did not disappoint. From a church with all it's interior murals executed in 3-D relief, the exquisitely curated Textile Museum (where they sadly don't let you take pictures) and the student exhibits at the Instituto de Artes Gráficos de Oaxaca to the random installations encountered in dusty city corners (hello giant eye/ray triangle thing!) and bustling markets this city is just brimming with artistic energy. I am having serious Oaxaca home ownership fantasies...

DYE, SPIN, WEAVE

WEAVE.01WEAVE.03WEAVE.04WEAVE.05

In a valley town outside of Oaxaca we visited a family to learn about their natural dyeing and weaving practices - basically my version of heaven. Some of these rugs take up to two months working 10 hours a day to complete and all the wool is dyed and spun on the premises. We're saving up for a big bedroom rug which (hopefully) we'll be able to get on our next visit down...

HOLA!

OAXACA.NEWS.01OAXACA.NEWS.02
We're back! We arrived back from Oaxaca at the very end of last week exhausted but happy with our trip. I have lots to share so I apologize if over the next few days the posts get a little Mexico heavy - the city is just too beautiful not to write about...

I want to give the girls over at Muttonhead a giant thank you for putting on what seemed to be a fabulous pop-up event last week. We were so happy to be included in the Mutts + Co. Traveling Market (although sad it ran exactly while we were in Mexico) and from all of the photos online it looked like it was a great time - thanks to all that stopped in. (image credits to Muttonhead + love seeing the S&C Astral scarf in such a cute photo!)

And lastly a huge congrats to my friend Julia Koo for opening her new boutique in Barcelona (aptly named Julia Koo) this past weekend! If you're in the city make sure to check it out - you'll find some S&C items nestled alongside other great brands and house label pieces. (image credit Julia Koo)

TRAVELING MARKET

We'll be in Mexico next week but while we're gone Scout & Catalogue will be participating in the pop-up shop Mutts & Co. Traveling Market right here in Toronto. We've been busy prepping for it so if you're in the area next Tuesday to Sunday stop by to get a chance to see our product in person. We'll be selling alongside some other great brands (our friends over at Fieldguided included) and our prices will be slightly reduced from the online shop. All the info is available here.

As we won't be in the studio all orders placed today onwards will not be shipped for at least a week.

HERE

APR.2.01

Easter was a pretty non-existent affair around our house. We both spent the weekend working and not eating nearly enough egg shaped treats. Some moments captured around here:

The last time I was in Vancouver I was lucky enough to get my hands on a few of my great-grandfather's tool boxes. They've been sitting downstairs getting in the way until yesterday when I converted one into a bookshelf of sorts. I'm super pleased with the results, especially since up until now my books have been languishing in dusty piles along the side of the bed. Mouse approves too.

V, myself and few (un)lucky interns have been cutting our days away trying to get the summer collection underway. We're hoping to have everything available for mid-May. I haven't been able to get back to everyone who has emailed asking about the availability of specific items but it's safe to say that if it's not listed in the shop it is sold out. I'm trying to bring back a lot of the most popular styles from Spring into the Summer collection so please check back in May.

This photo I took on our last trip to Puerto Vallarta is getting me excited about leaving for Oaxaca in a week! On our agenda is visiting a family that dyes and weaves wool rugs who have welcomed us to come and learn about the process. I. can. not. wait.

SCARF DAYS

http://www.scoutandcatalogue.com/

Scout & Catalogue scarves worn during the gift show that you may have seen if you follow me on instagram. The first picture is the doubling up of the indigo Endless Summer with the Iris and the second shows one of my favourites - the Nomad. The more I bring different fabrics into the line the more I like mixing and matching the collection (and textures) together...

AROUND HERE

Thanks to all that came and visited us at the show - it's always great to meet S&C customers in person. Last week was a bit of a blur so it's nice to get back to the daily grind of the studio.

Here a few shots of what's going on around here:

This 'Kensington Cigarettes' picture was hanging in my grandfather's wood workshop for as long as I can remember. The last time we visited I grabbed it and it's now hanging in our bedroom.

Now that the show is over there are little piles of our booth scattered all over the house. Today will be about cleaning the mess that is our apartment.

At the show I wore this indigo Endless Summer scarf with a slightly different drape than the one currently in the shop and got a lot of positive response. While I contemplate if I should include it the summer collection it's hanging in the studio.

After last week's cat drama Mouse has settled back in, more affectionate than ever.

I've had a few comments asking where I purchased my iphone case. Thanks to a tip from Anabela I headed over to the Society 6 website and spent some time scrolling through the many, many options before choosing this floral from Cocktail Paradiso.

There's a small interview of me in Plaid Magazine.
