TEXTILES / ISS:12:01.10

Once again my textile dyes amaze me. These are pictures of a Tranquilo Scarf in process which I dyed with 'Pearl Grey', that would be the bright orange you are seeing, and 'Jet Black' which is the bright blue. Clearly my dyes have other colours on their minds and continue to be a crap shoot - not only never turning out to be the colour on their label but also never being the SAME colour from dye job to dye job.

I may dye over this colour combo to create something a bit less contrasty but I took some shots because I thought it looked vaguely like outer space - 'textile space', if you will...

ME GUSTA / ISS:30:01.10

About a month ago I did a trade with Arlie at Urban Revisions - a cushion cover for this beautiful black triangle scarf. And yesterday it finally arrived!!

Made from strategically unravelling soft stretch cotton this scarf is amazingly comfortable and lovely to wear. Check out Urban Revisions other styles here.

'A place for everything and everything in its place' has never really resonated with me. While I wouldn't categorize myself as a messy person (am a strict morning bed maker) I am definitely comfortable with a bit of clutter (much to V's despair).

Case in point - my studs. Back in November I purchased about 20,000 studs in order to make a ton of cushions for the Good Things Collection and the remainder have been sitting in 2 big bags ever since. I've been using studs with everything for Scout & Catalogue and so now I am in a situation where not only is it difficult to find what I am looking for (studs in bag are jammed in with zero organization) I am beginning to worry that my favourite stud sizes may soon be running out. Solution - inventory count and STUD CARD! I spent a brief half hour last night making myself a stud card - an act that I'd been putting off for months. I love it! I now know exactly what studs I have and what they look like all in one place. AND if i find a stud on the floor (or lodged into V's bare foot while he is screaming in pain) I can just hold it up to my stud card and know exactly which bag it belongs in.

My life has been transformed...

I've mentioned before, as a Canadian living abroad I deeply appreciate that CBC Radio is available to stream online. I am an almost exclusive Radio 1 fan but have been known to jump over to Radio 2 now and then (most often to avoid 'Afghanada' or 'Go'). As a massive supporter of my national radio channels you can only imagine my excitement when I stumbled onto Science & Son's new prototype, 'Radio Canada'. With a speaker shaped like the CBC logo and the ability to solely toggle between Radio 1 and Radio 2 I can not wait for these to go into production so I can buy one.

My last Sayulita Scarf sold today and so I am back to making more. Luckily I had one last piece of super soft cotton jersey and voila - here is a second 'Sayulita Scarf - Ocean', made in the same dye batch as the first. Available in Scout & Catalogue's Etsy store...

New to Scout & Catalogue's Etsy shop - the Gris Tote. This is the grey version of the Driftwood Tote that has been so popular...

RANDOM / ISS:17:01.10

When was the last time you cleaned your computer? If you're anything like me the last time was, well, never. Here in Puerto Vallarta I am far from any store that sells canned air or special screen cleaning spray and so I had just resigned myself to dealing with a slight haze while viewing my favourite blogs and the knowledge that the bacteria on my keyboard would most likely someday kill me.

Who knew that rubbing alcohol would be the solution!? I guess I could have jumped on the 'just google it' bandwagon for this issue a heck of a lot sooner for some reason it just didn't occur to me. Until today - click here for the link to DIY computer cleaning.

The stamp worked! Scout & Catalogue labels are born - each one printed by hand and unique...

SCOUT & CATALOGUE / ISS:50:01.10

As I mentioned before the Driftwood Tote is doing amazingly well (the last 3 sold out in under 1 hour) and I am going to expand the line to include a grey version. This morning I've been burning up some studs - this time on our gas stove instead of our patio chimney. It takes a bit longer but is far less messy. On the road to becoming charcoal the, originally silver, studs change to a beautiful oily rainbow.

A little lovely mention in the blog Brooklyn Rehab...

I have a new Scout & Catalogue stamp! I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do with it (I'm thinking maybe labels?) but stamps are so affordable to get made in Mexico I just couldn't resist.

Holy Driftwood Tote! I've been sewing like crazy over the past few days trying to keep up with the demand for this item. I'm thinking I'll do a grey version next for people who like a bit subtler bling...

Driftwood Tote versions dos, tres and cuatro are all available in the Scout & Catalogue Etsy store.

CASA CIELO / ISS:05:01.10

Last night V strung up our Mexican flags and I am in love - they totally transform the patio. My only regret is that we waited 9 months.

Sunday we were supposed to sell at the Sayulita Street Market but because of such great response on Etsy I am almost out of product and scrambling this week to make more. We decided instead to take a day trip to Yelapa - a boat access only beach about a 30 minute ride from Boca de Tomatlan.

We got there around 1pm, the sun was shining fueling our visions of a relaxing day on the beach in the midst of new surroundings. We boarded the water taxi and proceeded to take the 30 minute ride out to Yelapa as if we were riding a roller coaster at 6 Flags. The waves were huge and our boat soared over each new swell before it slammed into the water below. Luckily everyone on the boat was comfortable at sea and so we had a blast. As we made our way to the shore we noticed a thick layer of grey cloud converging above the mountains and the water began to turn choppy making it difficult maneuver in such a small boat. Soon our driver was informing us that because of the weather no other water taxi's would be coming today and so we had to turn around and head right back without even making it to shore.

Our way back was less eventful and without the sun pretty darn cold. We ended up eating lunch on the beach once we returned - drenched, freezing and a little confused that we weren't living the life in Yelapa. At least we met a little friend while eating - she sat by our table all lunch but refused any food we offered her....

SCOUT & CATALOGUE / ISS:46:01.10

After several hours of swearing at my computer I have managed to finally update my main collections page to show my new scarves and bags. Titled, 'the Market Day Collection', I've pulled together some photos I shot for my Etsy store and compiled them into a little lookbook. Check it out here.

Some blog love for Scout & Catalogue on Urban Revisions.

I first 'met' Arlie at Urban Revisions when she contacted me about a trade - one of my pillows for one of her fabulous scarves. I couldn't say no and a lovely black scarf is on its way to Mexico as we speak. She has been nice enough to write about Scout & Catalogue on her personal blog (with a link to her fantastic etsy shop) - check it out here.

V came home with a piñata yesterday and I have to say it's one of my favourite gifts of all time. I've never been one for bright colours (which puts me at odds with most Mexicans) but for some reason this little guy fits perfectly in our tiny cottage. What better moment to embrace the piñata than in Mexico?
