SEEN : SAYULITA SCARF

firstscarf

Scout & Catalogue first began as a line of hand dyed cushions but quickly evolved to scarves and bags. This is a picture of the very first scarf I made for the line - the Sayulita scarf. Hand dyed jersey with stud details - I wanted something I could wear as a scarf, a sarong or use as a beach blanket. After this cold and wet winter I wish I was able to keep my tan as well as my Mexican memories forever.

TAMAR.01TAMAR.02TAMAR.03TAMAR.04TAMAR.05TAMAR.06TAMAR.07

The country north of Toronto is so beautiful in the winter and I'm lucky enough to have friends with homes I can visit. This past weekend was spent in the woods going for walks, eating great food and pulling together my One of a Kind booth. The show starts this Wednesday (27th) - make sure to visit if you're in the Toronto area - booth N-08.

LESS RAIN

conchas.chinas

The five day forecast says rain. The last five days have rained. At this time of year people in Vancouver get excited about days with less rain. Not no rain - less rain.

When I close my eyes I picture the photo above - I can not stop thinking about the Mexican sun.

ESSENTIALS : HAPPY AUGUST

happyaugust.heidi

Last week I did a post listing what I carry with me day to day and it got me thinking about what other girls keep in their S&C bags and clutches. When I saw Heidi of the cute stationary shop Happy August post the contents of her S&C Wanderlust tote bag on Instagram I thought I would ask and, hopefully, these posts will become a regular feature around here.

Here is what Heidi considers her essentials:

'There's usually more stuff in my bag but I've just started to use my new S&C tote. I always carry my two leather wallets (Falconwright, Beef & Lamb). The smaller one is for coins. I'm a heavy user of hand lotion (Make Up Store) and lip balm (Smith's Rosebud Salve and Clarins) so I can't go anywhere without them. Nowadays I'm trying to take better care of my nails so I usually have a nail file and some nail polish (Depend (the glittery one) & Dry Fast Top Coat - Seche Vite) with me just in case I'll find the time to use them. Usually don't.'

You can check out Heidi's shop here and follow her on Instagram here.

Note - the Wanderlust Tote is no longer in stock but we do have a our 100% recycled cotton Amor Love Triangle tote in stock in the online shop.

A NEW STUDIO

Picture-58Picture-60Picture-54

When I decided to move home to Vancouver people warned me that finding affordable studio space would be tricky. Really, finding affordable anything in Vancouver can be tricky, but because I grew up here I was more than confident that something would show up the second I started looking. Many, many seconds have passed since then and finally (finally) I have secured studio space that I'm really excited about. In April (that is 4 months after I initially started my search!) I will be moving into the space shown in these beautiful images and will be sharing it with the lovely Ryley O'Byrne and Aiya Feldman. I am over the moon to have a studio outside of my home, to share the space with two talented ladies and to finally, finally be able to get S&C back in full swing. Countdown to April begins now!

HAWAIIAN COCONUT

A few days ago through Anabela's post on the lovely blog Fieldguided I discovered the beautiful photography of Emily Faulstich who records her travels and daily inspiration on her tumblr called Hawaiian Coconut. I spent a good chunk of the morning scrolling through her sun drenched photos and realized that she has spent quite a bit of time in Puerto Vallarta. I have often regretted the lack of photos I took while living there (I blame work burn out and general laziness) so it was a treat to see the town captured so beautifully by Emily. Through her lens I feel a little bit closer to the beauty and chaos that was my life in Mexico...

LEDGER MAGAZINE

ledger

Love seeing the Galileo Moon Scarf on the cover of Craft & Culture's Ledger magazine. We have been sold out of the scarf for months but they still have a few (as well as other S&C goodies) in their online shop.

Thanks to all who entered the giveaway for the OOAK tickets - the winners are Tara - Lyn and Ari. Please email your mailing address to info@scoutandcatalogue.com so I can send them out to you ASAP.

As well on Friday I mentioned that I was going to sell a small batch of marbled goods this week and the response was overwhelming. I just wanted to mention that the marbled leather IS moving forward but I'd like to get the production quality absolutely perfect before listing them which means I won't be selling them immediately. They will be available in the next few months - I'm as excited as you and can't wait to have them in the shop!

MARBLE

marbleprototype

I've been working on some leather marbling and hand sewing experiments recently - looking to create some phone/sunglass/coin/card case options for S&C. I am still in the prototype phase but am really excited about where things are heading and think I'll be listing a small collection of these hand marbled goods next week in the shop to see how the response is. I'll let you know more about when they will be listed in a few days!
