ROAD TRIP / ISS:33:05.10

It's official - we are on the road and off the internet! Scout & Catalogue will take a month long sabbatical as we travel from Puerto Vallarta to Toronto and set up shop there. The site, blog and product will all get a bit of a facelift so make sure to check back at the beginning of July!

Gracias Mexico para la buena vida!

When V and I first decided to move to Mexico we were going to open a store filled with wonderful unique Mexican wares. We happened to arrive here the day that swine flu hit and with the economy in a tailspin and tourism non-existent we had to put our store plans on the back burner and wait it out. I recently stumbled upon an inspiration document of things we were possibly going to sell and thought I'd share a small sampling of the items...

My aunt sent me pictures of this beautiful event in Brussels where they constructed a massive Medieval carpet out of flowers. I'm not loving the palette but the idea is genius.

Like most people I have always dreamt of living in a small apartment somewhere cultured and exotic in Europe, so it comes with some excitement to discover a new (to me) blog chronicling one couple's creative adventures in Paris. Cheri is the girl behind the blog Scout Holiday and her soft dreamy aesthetic, perfectly rumpled home and cute accessory line leave me drooling to set up camp across the Atlantic.

The necklaces featured above are from her line and are sold in Paris at Le Bon Marche and Colette and on Etsy for everyone else...

One of V's cousin's spent a day with us this past weekend and we headed down to the beaches on the west side of the city to enjoy the very hot and sunny weather. While there we were approached by a vendor selling sculptures made of precious stones. While none of his wares caught my eye the quartz crystal on his wrist did and V managed to convince him to sell it to us despite the stone having large personal value to him. Feeling guilty for purchasing something so personal we retracted our offer but he assured us that the stone was a symbol of good luck for this trip and that the next day he would return to his home in the south of Mexico. For him this final transaction was also a sign of fortune.

With our own trip coming up so quickly I am thrilled to have this small crystal come with us delivering some Mexican good luck along the long road home.

I have a few pairs of old beat up Levi shorts and a few days ago I decided to update a pair with some studs. I chose the bottom back pockets because it seemed like one of the shorts more visible areas - it wasn't until I was an entire back pocket in that I had 'crystal pocket' jean flashbacks. Hoping that studs would appear more Balmain than Paris Hilton I pushed onwards and was quite happy with the results.

That was until I washed them and discovered that the paint on the studs had run all over the denim. Despite this set-back I've deemed them wearable and so today I shall set off on my errands wearing my slightly-botched-but-still-lovely studded denim shorts...

One more week to get your 'Market Day Collection' Scout & Catalogue items! We are hitting the road on June 1st and Scout & Catalogue will be closed for all of June while we get set up in a new city. While our aesthetic will remain the same, not all of our Mexico designs will not be coming with us...make sure to snap something up this week...

Scout & Catalogue's Etsy store will be open until Sunday May 30th - we will reopen in our new city in early July...

My friend Carolyn over at Solis Jewelry posted these locks on her blog today and I had to share. Apparently it is a trend in many European cities for couples to inscribe their names, initials, an important date or phrase onto a lock and then attach the lock to a bridge and throw the key into the water below. Ah the romance...

CANADA / ISS:08:05.10

On our way back to Canada we are traveling...light. All of our worldly possessions need to fit in a very small car and as such we will arrive with absolutely no furniture. While the thought of having to buy every little thing all over again feels exhausting and expensive there is something nice about starting all over again - a clean slate in a new city. And so the nesting begins! Above are some inspiration shots (clearly I am 'feeling' white these days) I snagged from the tumblr Rather Nice.

My friends Chloe and Julian recently had a lovely little boy and were awesome enough to snap a few pictures of him enjoying their Scout & Catalogue Bermuda Triangle pillows. It's great to see Scout & Catalogue items find such good (and adorable) homes...thank you Chloe!

CASA CIELO / ISS:07:05.10

It's been one year now that we have been living in our little house high in the hills above the beautiful beaches of Puerto Vallarta. This is the last 'normal' week we have here in Mexico - next week we'll be packing things up, giving things away, saying goodbyes and looking forward at our new life in Toronto. I will miss this little house with its view of the sea and all of the wonderful experiences and insights that came with it.

Goodbye Casita Cielo - you will always hold a very special place in my heart.

I am a HORRIBLE illustrator but if I did have the ability to draw I hope it would look something like Esra Roise's work. When I was a Creative Director at Aritzia I followed her career in the hopes to potentially spark up a collaboration and have since seen her work in many different fashion magazines, most recently Nylon.
