I love the muted palette and bleak nature shots in this weeks Lunes Loves Etsy shop, Marco Suarez. All of the circle images were taken in Ireland and, while I've never been, are exactly how I picture the country. They make me want to don my wellies and head out for a walk on a foggy moor...

LIFE IN THE TIME OF THE FLU
The last week has been really difficult - during one of the busiest times for Scout & Catalogue I managed to get the flu. We still can't figure out WHERE I got it seeing that my days are spent madly sewing alone in the studio but I definitely, definitely got it. As such work has been moving very slowly and since getting things made was all I was able to focus on my studio has erupted into the most glorious mess. Today I'm feeling a bit better and think the morning will start with a bit of a cleaning session before I jump back into pouch construction.

OOAK PHOTOSHOOT
Today my, normally very quiet, home/studio was filled with people all gathered to shoot some S&C product and myself for the upcoming Spring 2011 One of a Kind show. I've never done a major gift show before but decided to take the plunge this March with OOAK. Imagine my surprise when they requested Scout & Catalogue to be in their promotional campaign (awesome!), and imagine my horror at finding out it involved a photo of me (not awesome!). Getting my photo taken is pretty high up on the list of things I absolutely hate - throw in a group of strangers assessing the outcome and I get very, very nervous. Luckily for me the team for OOAK were fabulous and put me at ease with lots of distracting conversation and a whole lot of cookies...

HOUSE TOUR
Head on over to The Marion Housebook for a house tour of our place here in Toronto. Emma came over in December to shoot a studio tour of Scout & Catalogue and ended up snapping shots of a few more rooms...

A PIRATES LIFE FOR ME
I spend a lot of days running back and forth from the stove to the washing machine dyeing the fabric I use for Scout & Catalogue. Today I focused on my Nomad scarves in purple. The dye is from the heart of a Logwood tree which grow in Central and South America and, before synthetic dyes were invented, was the main source for the colour black. It was in such high demand that pirates used to take time out of their regular day jobs of plundering and looting to harvest and sell the stuff to wealthy European and North American merchants. These days the demand for natural dyes is from hobbyists only and the pirates have lost interest, but I still get a little historical thrill every time I reach for the Logwood and watch the rusty wood chips turn the water a deep piratey purple.

SMALL PLEASURES
With the snowy weather of late and the plentiful S&C spring orders (thank you!) I've been a bit house bound. As such it's the little things that have been keeping me happy - like a forgotten order from China arriving in the mail (hello crystals!) and this gorgeous wool wrap and pair of red Sorels that V found at Value Village and brought home for me.

HOW-TO LASSO
Obviously I am a fan of super sized scarves and ever since starting Scout & Catalogue I have received plenty of emails asking how I tie the scarves in my photos. This season I designed a new scarf, the Lasso, that takes the bundling struggles out of scarf tying and makes the perfect wrap easy for everyone.
How-to Lasso
1. Figure out which end has your 'lasso' (leather loop).
2. Put scarf around the back of your neck, placing end with lasso (crystal side up) at about boob level. This means your scarf is not even - if you're short like me the end of the scarf without the lasso should be almost touching the ground. Take the long end and wrap once all the way around your neck. I like to give the coil around the front of my neck a little fluff to make the scarf appear really, really large.
3. The end without the lasso should now only be a little bit longer on your torso than the lasso end.

OMA VINTAGE
Loving everything in Oma Vintage. Also wondering when and how I could ever pull off a Scout's hat?
