CONFETTI

In Mexico when there is something to celebrate they make these confetti filled coloured eggs and then proceed to smash them all around town. It takes a few weeks before the streets are no longer littered with little bits of coloured paper and egg shells.

I dug through my Mexico photo archives to give a confetti filled nod to William and Kate (ahem, I mean Catherine) on their big day.

MICHI

My talented friend Michelle moved to Toronto from New York last year to start her own line of boudoir inspired work-out gear. The result is Michi which is being snatched up by retailers faster than Michelle can get it produced. Getting your sweat on in a peek-a-boo cut-out mesh bra? I can think of nothing more motivating to get me to the gym...

My talented friend Rissa and her husband Peter are the creative force behind the sweet blog The New Domestic which chronicles their adventures as home owners and new parents to their little girl Luna. Now they've teamed up to bring their sharp modern aesthetic to a line of home goods also titled The New Domestic. Starting with these cotton totes their dreams for the line spans accessories to home decor - I can't wait to see what they come up with next!

I've been doing a lot of dye tests these past few days and have been particularly drawn to the palette Jaik Faulk uses in his paintings. If you're in Portland Faulk's work is currently being shown at Nationale.

APRIL

A few things happening around here:

1) Swatch tests for the summer S&C collection. I have some new fabrics that are making me very excited!

2) I casually mentioned to V that it could be nice for one of our studio walls to be a chalkboard wall and when I returned home from LA I found it done. Far from creative doodles that show off our drawing prowess (of which, I believe, both of us have none) I can see this bad boy being used for mammoth to do lists...

3) V was in London this weekend and brought me back 'flowers' from one of my favourite galleries - the Tate Modern.

4) I haven't worn perfume oil since 1993 (the Body Shop White Musk anyone?) but the thought of smelling like the beach everyday with this Black Coconut perfume oil from Long Winter Farm won me over. The smell lifts my spirits even on the coldest, bleakest April days. (Please God, don't let the line's name be a seasonal curse.)

LUCKY ME

While I was in Vancouver I spent a day with my grandparents and was lucky enough to leave with a few antique tools (that will help me with Scout & Catalogue) and two (!) Hudson Bay blankets. The blankets were one of their wedding presents and since this year marks their 65th wedding anniversary these beauties are pretty special to me.

FASHION DISTRICT

LAFD.01
LAFD.02
LAFD.03

I spent today in LA's fashion district - a few blocks downtown that feel like you are back in Mexico. Store upon store sells every fabric, bead or trim you will ever need and 80% of the conversation you overhear is in Spanish. I mostly just window shopped since carting giant rolls of fabric home is a bit unrealistic but did manage to find some great shops selling items I can't find in Toronto.

Thanks to Judith and Laura for all your suggestions!

YVR TO LAX

Yesterday I left the soft blue light of Vancouver behind and arrived in the bright white light of Los Angeles. I'm staying with great friends and this morning I took a stroll through their neighborhood, feeling the warm sun on my back, while carefully selecting which homes I would buy if:

a) I had an American visa
b) I had several hundred thousand to burn

I still find it shocking that it is easier to buy a home in LA than it is in Vancouver. But that (grumpy) conversation is better left for another day...
