SCOUT & CATALOGUE / ISS:102:04.10

Here in Mexico one of the most common fabrics is called Manta. Manta seems to be any type of cream coloured cotton varying from almost canvas like thickness to thin and gauzy like what is pictured above. With what is called 'Manta Cielo' (Manta Sky) I've tie dyed the fabric and then studded along its middle width to create the La Buena Vida Scarf. Available, of course, in the Scout & Catalogue Etsy store...

Have you ever lived somewhere without a bath? This is the first time for me only having a shower and I miss long hot baths with a good book terribly. I guess you could argue that you don't need hot baths when you live in a tropical climate but I miss them none the less.

I love the idea of pulling off a kimono in 'real life' - and if you can manage to ride your bike in the process, all the better...

Living in Mexico and not eating meat is kind of like being a vegetarian in the 1970's - there is no outside help. Here it is very hard to find protein supplements like tofu, soy milk, meat replacements or quinoa that are so common back home. One of the ways I've rallied is to actually make things from scratch (something I never thought I was capable of doing) and here is an example of some hamburger patties (botanical burgers) I made from the Rebar - Modern Food Cookbook. The recipe is way way too long to write out here but I would highly recommend exploring the world of homemade patties - way better flavour than the standard frozen variety and chock full of good things for your body...

SCOUT & CATALOGUE / ISS:101:04.10

A twist on a Scout & Catalogue classic - Tranquilo Scarf - Oscuro. My local fabric store is now stocked with a black version of the super soft linen I use for my regular Tranquilo Scarves so I bleach dyed the ends and studded the edges with a chunkier charcoal pyramid stud. This has quickly become one of my favourite scarves and is available to purchase in the Scout & Catalogue Etsy store.

Some beautiful photos from Lula Magazine's online scrapbook.

CASA CIELO / ISS:06:04.10

Our home is up in the hills with an amazing view of the city and lush jungle surrounding us on three sides. Yesterday we got back from Sayulita to discover that the family of squatters next door decided to clear cut the jungle down one whole side of our house. Now instead of the looking at bougainvillea climb swaying palms (top picture) we look at a browning wasteland filled with garbage. Sigh...
