In a week we're heading to Mexico City to visit V's family and poke around the local markets. I'm especially excited to visit 'La Casa Azul' - the Frida Khalo museum which we were never able to make it to when we lived in Mexico...

Kimberly Gordon's Silverlake, Los Angeles home had me googling 'immigration to the United States' yesterday. As well as the thought of another Canadian winter (is it normal to already be terrified of November?).

After a long work day yesterday a group of us headed over to check out the Toronto Jazz Festival. We waited over an hour for the evening show while drinking wine, eating greasy food and playing scrabble. After the night's performance we decided our pre-picnic was the best part of the evening...

AROUND

Sorry it's been a bit quiet around here - after returning home from Vancouver I got really sick and spent most of last week sleeping off my fever. But this week it's back to business as usual - most importantly - the Canada Post strike is over and the shop is up and running once again!

And a few small things:

1) Wholesale orders I've been trying to get out the door despite my illness are piling up around me.

2) V had a birthday. We celebrated by playing kickball in a local park and having a bonfire BBQ which he captured on his new (to him) Brownie Hawkeye. For when he is traveling and doesn't have time to fiddle with film I got him a super small digital camera which can now be found in his pocket at all times.

3) A few items I bought in Vancouver:
~ A new Mac lipstick in 'Pink Nouveau'
~ 2 new rings
~ Crocheted pouch similar to one I used to wear in 1994 that is now home to my Mexico sea glass collection

4) After over 2 years I have finally been reunited with my dishes that I stashed at my Mom's before we left for Mexico. We've been making due with a few thrifted basics but I can not express how happy I am to have dishes in varied sizes again.

My dear friend Tamar had me over for pasta and beers one evening last week and I couldn't help taking some pictures of her cute East Van apartment. Tamar owns a giant 5 apartment home and does all of the interior design/renovations herself. Lucky for me she is moving to Toronto next week and starting up her own interior consultant business which I will promptly share with you once she gets her website up and running.

I am finally back from a fabulous week of friends and family in Vancouver. Despite being June the city is still a bit wet and cold (everyone pray for Vancouverites that summer DOES show up eventually) and there was some major hockey madness thrown in for good measure (the citizen led post riot clean-up the day after was so heartfelt and sincere I wish it received more international coverage) but all in all it was just the break I needed.

On a business note: As most of you know Canada Post is on strike. They will most likely be back up and running this week and until then the online shop will be closed. Thanks for your understanding.

WEDDINGS AND BABIES, OH MY

IMG_4511

I'm heading home this weekend for a week to celebrate a friends new baby and another friends wedding. I haven't been home during the summer for what feels like a long time and I'm excited. I've decided to take a full break while I'm there - no store, no blog - so as of this Friday the store will be shut until Tuesday the 21st. If you've already placed an order it will go out before I leave.

WEST ELM X ETSY POP-UP SHOP

westelm.02

Thanks to all who braved the giant thunderstorm on Saturday and came out to the West Elm x Etsy Pop-Up Shop event! I spent the day standing beside my wares chatting it up with customers and didn't take a single picture. At all. Whoops. Luckily the great blog Beaux Mondes managed to capture the mood. And I was able to leave with one teeny new purchase - this fabulous tote from Fieldguided. I already have it in black but what girl can resist hot pink??

(Edit: Anabela of Fieldguided has just posted her photos of the event and you can check them out here.)
