This weeks Lunes Loves Etsy focuses on the relatively new shop Vinca Vere. The San Francisco based line brings a delicate touch to the (in my opinion, sometimes too heavy) geometric jewelry trend that is so prevalent right now. To follow their process check out the Vinca Vere blog.

Our friends Eric and Shady own the most beautiful home (which I apparently forgot to take more than one photo of) in the small beach town of San Pancho just 10 minutes up the road from Sayulita. If you're ever looking for a super chill place to vacation - where it's just you, the pool and your book - San Pancho is the place to do it. My favourite part of their property is their private beach. The house is built high up on a hill so you have to walk down forever before you reach a private cove with craggy rock on all sides and golden sand. This trip the water was too cold and rough to swim but the walk was still worth it.

For most of the trip we were lucky enough to stay at a family friends condo. The place was HUGE, with an immense patio and view of the ocean to match. Since V's parents live in a teeny apartment above their art gallery in the center of town we were all so grateful to be able to stretch out and lap up PV in luxury.

WHALES!

One of the highlights of our trip was whale watching off of Punta de Mita. In a small boat with family friends we found a mother and baby who put on a 15 minute show playing in the water. At one point the mother rolled onto her back and started hitting the water with her flippers. Her baby kept jumping around her until finally it too rolled over and imitated it's mother. Our boat operator said that the mother was teaching her baby a defense technique and once the baby had learned they calmly headed off to deeper waters and we made our way home.

While living in Puerto Vallarta V and I never really took any pictures. I think I was too busy trying to convince the locals that I wasn't a tourist and whipping out my camera to capture the mundane moments of a Mexican town didn't really help my case. This visit we had no shame (we were so pale it was obvious we were gringos) and took pictures every chance we got. Here's a random selection of walks through the main square, a trip to one of the many fabric stores, the overwhelming clutter of the markets and my favourite place to buy coffee. And of course no Mexican walk would be complete without a rooster sighting...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

BIRTHDAY CARD

One of the questions asked in my recent Etsy interview was which handmade possession do I cherish most and my response was the birthday cards my father has been making me since I was 5. It just so happens that we went to Mexico to celebrate my birthday so I thought I would share this years installment. The topic of the cards vary from year to year but always represent something going on in my life and this time the focus was (of course) S&C. To prepare for this my Dad researched my sewing machine, the correct way to hold a lasso and the ins and outs of drawing a comic strip - I think the end result is pretty special. Thanks Dad!!

And we're back! Mexico was great but being home is even better - despite the snow and sub-zero temperatures. Our time in PV was filled with so many different (lovely) experiences that I thought I share them this week, bit by bit.

We spent a few days by ourselves in the little surf town Sayulita. When people ask me about visiting the Puerto Vallarta area I always tell them to skip PV and head right to Sayulita. For me it is the perfect vacation town - right on a beach (with a small surf break if you're inclined), small enough to walk everywhere with tons of cute hotels and restaurants. We spent a lot of time there when we were living in Puerto Vallarta and we couldn't wait to get back for some much needed R&R.

I had been eyeing up the Petite Hotel Hafa for ages and so we decided to spend a couple of nights there and bask in the amazing Mexican/French/Moroccan interior design fusion. The ambiance was awesome, the rooftop terrace was spectacular and seemingly every nook and cranny deserved a second look and a photo. Such a great little place. I will say this though - if you are booking longer than a few nights I wouldn't recommend this little hotel. While it's lovely to look at none of the rooms have balconies or views to speak of and it's nestled right in the town so it is LOUD. But for our little vacation within a vacation it was perfect...
