MEXICAN FLAGS

flags
flags.02

In the past, coloured flags were used in Mexico to decorate the streets and let everyone know that an event was taking place (each event had its own flag colour combo). This still occurs in small towns but these days, excepting some church festivals, multi-coloured flags are mostly used to lure unsuspecting tourists into restaurants and gift shops and encourage them to part with their precious pesos.

We had a strand of them on our patio in Mexico (so that tourist-attracted-to-bright-colourful-thing really is true) and we wanted to bring a little bit of Mexico home with us to Canada. We decided on one strand of all white (traditionally denoting a wedding) so that our 'ode to Mexico' would be a little subdued and, while I wish they were paper instead of plastic, I am quite fond of the end result.
