Neither V nor myself had ever been to Southern USA and so we made a small detour to New Orleans which lasted for two days. We stayed in the French Quarter which, while hugely beautiful, was a little too filled with (drunk) tourists for our liking. On day two we discovered the Garden District and Magazine Street which seemed to be filled with cute shops, little cafes and no one had a two litre Daiquiri in hand - we decided this was the area for us.
New Orleans has such a rich and crazy past - not only was it a saucy port town and the richest American city before the civil war but it was ruled by both the Spanish AND the French before being traded to the US. From the soft spanish moss to the jars of pickled pigs lips at the local drugstore we enjoyed every last minute of our down south adventure.
