Guest blogger Julie returns for this month's installment of LOOK!BOOK!

I thought we’d extend the celebration of mums by a couple of days and ask Bre’s and mine for their reading recommendations this month.

1) My mama chose the international bestseller, Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese (incidentally also my book club book this month). The story follows the life of twins Shiva and Marion Stone, born at Missing Hospital in Ethiopia in 1954.

A nurse from Ireland who has assisted surgeries everywhere from Bethnal Green to Vancouver and is now dedicated to the work of the Vancouver Hospice, my mum loved thread of medicine and care giving that is inseparable from the twins’ coming of age story.

2) Bre’s mama says: “I seem to be on a real nature kick with my reading these days. It started last month with Farley Mowat’s Never Cry Wolf. In 1948-49 Mowat was sent (alone) by the Canadian government into the tundra to report on the harm inflicted by bloodthirsty wolves on the Arctic caribou. I did not expect this Canadian classic to be so satirically funny, so well written and so deeply moving, as Mowat discovers ‘not a den of marauding killers but a courageous family of skillful providers and devoted protectors of their young.’ A wonderful, wonderful book.”

Ummm. How cute are our mums by the way?
